Backup Requirements

NormShield solution is a software based solution and the most important & critical data that should be backed up against any possible data loss is the backend database.

NormShield uses MSSQL Server Express 2014 Edition x64. The database files used for NormShield are;

  • adb.mdf
  • adb_log.ldf

The physical locations for these data files may vary from installation to installation, however, usually they are under

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA

Usually these files will be in one or more GB levels. There are two main alternatives for a backup strategy;

  • First alternative is if you have a company-wide backup procedure, then the directories to backup will be the database files directory, web portal installation directory, general logging/ artifact directory and agent installation directory. Default directories are listed below.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA
C:\inetpub\wwwroot\uvm
C:\Ns
C:\Program Files (x86)\NormShield
  •  Second alternative is if you have to backup yourself the database files are enough to bring NormShield back alive against a data loss. Default data directories with absolute file paths are listed below.
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\adb.mdf
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL12.SQLEXPRESS\MSSQL\DATA\adb_log.ldf

MSSQL Server Express Edition's Management Studio can also be leveraged to backup database files, for further reference see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2019698.
